Carpet Runner
A carpet runner is a long but narrow strip of carpet used to cover the floor in a high traffic area such as a hall or stair way. They are used to cover hard surfaces such as wood or tile and serve several purposes. These purposes include ergonomic ones and structural ones.
Ergonomically, a carpet runner will make a high traffic area less jarring to walk on than the hard surface it covers. It also prevents water pooling on the surface, as in the case of an entryway. The carpet runner can also provide a pleasant contrast from the monotony of a continuous monochromatic surface.
Structurally the carpeting can save wear on an already worn surfaces, and costs much less than replacing a hardwood floor. Even if you’re just trying to prolong the life of a surface until you can afford to have it replaced, a carpet runner will be an economical choice for you.
Things to look for when buying a carpet runner are a low profile, matching décor, and proper attachment. The less height difference between the runner and the surrounding floor the lower the odds of tripping become, this is why a low profile is important. Proper attachment of the carpet runner also lowers the tripping odds. This is less vital for a runner in an entry way than for something that covers stairs. And of course you want your carpet runner to match the existing décor of the area it will be covering.
