Why do I need a carpet pad?
If you don’t believe you want a carpet pad for your home, walk around for an hour barefoot on solid concrete or wood. These surfaces are not soft, and carpet is a lot thinner than most people believe. The actual give that a carpeted surface has is due much more to the type of padding underneath than the carpet itself. If you are ok with a hard feeling carpet that wears out more quickly, installation without a pad is less expensive. But be sure to honestly weigh the cost in comfort before you take that route.
What are carpet tiles?

They are similar to the newer modular hardwood floors that snap together on the seams rather than needing to be nailed down. Unlike the new hardwood flooring, carpet tiles are an extremely inexpensive way to cover an area. They can also be individually replaced, and make an excellent long term investment because of this. They are primarily used in commercial settings.
What are do the patterns on an oriental rug mean?
What the patterns mean is largely based on where the rug comes from. Persian rugs have abstract patterns that are descended from an Islamic prohibition on using images of man or animals in religious art. This created a highly developed sense of artistic pattern in the Persian area, and the rugs you see today are a result of that. If your rug depicts a scene, it is much more likely from Eastern Asia, China perhaps. The Chinese have no inhibitions about making a mural out of their rugs, and many beautiful examples can be found.
