Outdoor Carpet
Outdoor carpet may seem like a paradox or a fanciful invention, but really the first carpets were intended to be used outdoors. The nomadic peoples of Turkey and Mongolia were the first carpet weavers, and they used them as ground padding and bedding, often under the open sky.
Today the uses for outdoor carpet are slightly different. We use it to carpet decks and patios rather than as a bed while on the move. Outdoor carpeting is great for decks because it is easier to care for than wood. Simply roll the vacuum out front and clean up the dust. New outdoor carpets are also water resistant and will not mold, making them ideal coverings regardless of the precipitation for the area you’re considering for carpeting.
Perhaps the best known outdoor carpeting is Astroturf. Astroturf was invented in 1965, and famously used to cover the field in the Huston astrodome. Less well known is the fact that previous to being covered in Astroturf, the dome had live grass. The problem was that the grass died the first year under the interior lighting of the dome. Astroturf can be used now for residential applications, for instance if you want a green lawn but don’t want to water it, Astroturf is worth looking into.
